Expanded Metal is a sheet metal that has been cut and stretched with a regular pattern of diamond-shaped openings. The process of creating expanded metal and expanded mesh involves cutting and stretching the metal or wire to create diamond shaped openings.The metal is then mechanically opened up to form a sheet that has a much larger surface area than the original metal sheet. This makes expanded metal an ideal material for use in a variety of applications, including fencing, screens, and grating.
Expanded metal is made from a flat piece of sheet metal, typically steel. The sheet is inserted into a machine and then the material is stretched in two different directions to form diamond-mesh openings. A blade then cuts through the openings in between each point on the diamond, producing a pattern that resembles fish scales.
